Bonfires are an indie alternative band formed in Cheddleton, Staffordshire. Members are Stuart Whiston, Darren Edwards and Mike Lo Bosco. Their sound is indie music operating outside of the tight-trousered fashions of the moment. With shades of early Verve, Echo and The Bunnymen, the Cure, Oasis and a dash of Jesus and Mary Chain reverberating through them, Bonfires songs are well heeled, resplendent with soaring melodies and huge life affirming choruses.
Stoke Sounds Festival 2009 "On the main stage, Bonfires kicked up some mud with their rabble rousing rock and roll, the pop-friendly guitar lines and vocals of frontman Stuart Whiston soaring over the driving drums, harking back to Brit rock influences such as the Bunnymen and the Verve. There's no doubting Mr Whiston's ear for a melody and their set featured huge hooky choruses, and sure fire hit singles, in particular the infectious "Drop the Weapon".
Less than a week into 2010 and everyone is slowing awakening from their holiday slumber. For those of you looking for a fresh voice to start the new year, I present to you: Bonfires. This UK band is a welcome change from the Brooklyn hum-drum of mustaches, emaciation and snobbery. A throwback to 1990’s British rock, the band’s track “All We Have Is Tomorrow” will be a lead track on the band’s upcoming EP which will be released later this year. |
